ARC Review: Unspoken (Shadow Falls: After Dark #3)

Unspoken (Shadow Falls: After Dark #3) by C.C. Hunter
Publication Date: October 28, 2015

Despite her superhuman strength and enhanced senses, Della Tsang's life as a vampire certainly hasn't been easy. Especially since she was reborn and bound to the mysterious, infuriating, and gorgeous Chase Tallman.

But if there's one thing that's always kept Della going, it's her dream of being an elite paranormal investigator. Her newest case is the opportunity she's been waiting for, but as Della tries to solve the twenty year old murder and clear her father's name. She uncovers secrets about the vampire council. And about Chase.

Feeling betrayed by all the secrets he's kept hidden from her, Della is determined to keep him as far away from her heart as she can. But she'll need his help to solve the case that will lead them into the darkest and ugliest vampire gangs in town and into the scariest reaches of her heart.

This was a fantastic conclusion to this amazing series! C.C. Hunter has always blown me away with her writing. She always manages to capture the right amount of humor, action, and romance in all of her books, and it makes for such an enjoyable read. This book has it all: drama (it knows no bounds in this one), pure craziness (come on, it's Della we're talking about here), suspense, and laugh-out-loud moments. Suffice to say, this was the perfect way to end the series, and I think Unspoken will please all fans.

Della has always been such an interesting character to me. In the original Shadow Falls series, she was a bit of an enigma. We never got a truly good grasp on her. That was why I was so happy to have an entire series about her. I felt throughout the course of this series we got to see a side to Della that most people didn't see. We were able to understand her much better. Regardless, she has grown leaps and bounds from when we first met her, but she is still Della through and through. I love her spunk, her feisty nature, and her sarcasm. She is a tough girl on the outside, but vulnerable on the inside. Della has a lot going on in her life, and all our questions (and hers as well) are answered in this novel...especially in regards to her father's behavior towards her. There were some scenes that broke my heart, and all I wanted to do was give Della a hug. Della is such a relatable character, and I loved how C.C. Hunter portrayed that in the books.

While I have never been a fan of love triangles, the one between Della, Steve, and Chase is definitely an interesting one for sure. There is plenty of drama, and it makes for a good read. There were a couple times that I wished Della would just admit what she was feeling and be with who she truly wanted to be with (not giving away any spoilers!!), but I did like how Della reasoned everything out. She realized what she felt toward Steve and Chase respectively, and acted on that. I felt Della went about it very intelligently, and it showed just how much she has grown. Matters of the heart are definitely not something that are to be rushed in to, and Della did take her time with her decision. But when she does make her decision, it's makes for a really sweet and cute moment at the end of the book.

Overall, this was a great way to end the series. There was a lot of action and plenty of twists and turns. C.C. Hunter resolved the story of her aunt's murder very well, and I liked the turn the story took. The story is a little darker, as it delves more into the gang world, but it makes for a great read! This is a must read for all Shadow Falls fans, and not to be missed!

*I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Happy reading :)

  1. Oooh nice! I'm still waiting notsopatiently for my review copy of this one! LOL! Loved the first two, as well as the first series! Shadows Falls is just awesome! I wish I was a supernatural teen at this camp! Heehee! Positively giddy to know who Della chooses, because I think this was one where I truly didn't know which "team" I was on. So I'll be curious to see who she picked! Great review!

    1. Thanks! I was so happy to get a copy of this because I was getting inpatient haha. But Shadow Falls is so amazing, and I also wish I could be there!! I was pretty torn too as to who I wanted her with, but I liked her choice in the end. Let me know what you think of it when you get your copy :)
